March 6, 2011 World Day of Prayer
A Prayer Concert
Synopsis: Today's sermon is spread throughout the service as I call
attention to five different dimension of prayer. I will make several
references to E. Glenn Hinson's book The Reaffirmation of Prayer. Members
of our High School Youth group will be leading the congregation in prayers
of praise, thanksgiving, transformation, intercession and surrender. The
actual prayers used were written by Carson Newman College students enrolled
in Introduction to Ministry Class.
The World Day of Prayer is an international ecumenical Christian
laywomen's initiative. It is run under the motto "Informed Prayer and
Prayerful Action," and is celebrated annually in over 170 countries on the
first Friday in March.
It started in1887 when Mary Ellen James called for prayer to address
the problems of women around her especially immigrants struggling to live in
slums of New York.
Let us pay attention to the words of our prayers and make sure we
are using all dimensions of prayer and not just one or two.
