Tearing Down the Wall

Ephesians 2:14-16

Synopsis: I begin my message today with a confession of our business and a challenge to release at least some of those concerns to give space and time for the Spirit to work the peace of God in us.  “For Christ himself has brought peace to us.” (Ephesians 2:14-16)   Paul illustrates how this was accomplished with images from the Temple.  The setting is worship but the Temple had a wall erected to separate the people.  Only Jewish males had access to the inner court.  Christ brought peace and unity to all people by tearing down the “wall of hostility that separated us.”

There are three things I want you to take away from this text.  1. Jesus has already torn down the “wall of hostility” that others erected to keep you from God, 2. Not everybody knows that, 3. Now be sure you do not build it back with the cares of this world.

God has a plan and a purpose for the church.  It is as we are united as one in Christ that God’s plan is revealed to us and to the those around us.  Join us in the Challenge to affirm our faith and to grown in it!  Be a part of the Distribution to get the word out to those who need to hear it!  Grow in the Spirit and help others do the same.

Living In Christ

Congregational Challenge and Response

I challenge those of you who have faith in Jesus Christ to examine your experience as a means of enriching your spiritual life.  Therefore you are to pray for the movement of the Spirit in your life and in the lives of others around you.

It is right for us to examine our faith and pray for the movement of the Spirit of Christ in our lives, therefore:

WE WILL PRAY EARNESTLY FOR A MOVEMENT OF THE SPIRIT OF CHRIST.

I challenge you to set aside a time each day to read a portion of the Gospel of John and to hold yourself accountable by checking off your progress as a means of spiritual growth and accountability.

It is right that we should spend time daily reading the Scriptures and to hold ourselves accountable for spiritual growth, therefore:

WE WILL HOLD OURSELVES ACCOUNTABLE TO DAILY READINGS FROM THE GOSPEL OF JOHN.

I challenge you to study each week the assigned lesson from Living In Christ as preparation for worship.

It is right for us to prepare for worship, therefore:

WE WILL PREPARE FOR WORSHIP BY STUDYING THE LESSON FROM LIVING IN CHRIST.

I challenge you to take a copy of Living In Christ to someone who needs it; invite him or her to join you in the daily readings from John and in studying the lessons each week; and invite her or him to join you in worship.

It is right for us to reach out to others as a witness of Christ’s love and our concern for them, therefore:

WE WILL GIVE  LIVING IN CHRIST TO OTHERS WE KNOW WHO NEED TO KNOW THE PEACE OF CHRIST IN THEIR LIVES.

Scripture Text (NLT): Ephesians 2:14-16, 3:10-11, 14-19
