Journey to the Stable
The Announcement: Mary and the Living Water
Second Sunday of Advent: Candle of Love
Synopsis: Our journey to the stable continues in the hope of discovering the gift of God that filled the world with LOVE that first Christmas morning. The Gospel of Luke tells us the way through the story of a young maiden named Mary. She lived in the small village of Nazareth a few days journey north of Jerusalem. God’s reason for picking her was a demonstration of His LOVE for the world.
From this story we learn how God takes the small things of this world to confound the larger things. She was just a little maiden from a little village in a little country under the domination of the world’s super power. And yet, as she yielded her little, God shaped the course of history.
Part of my sermon is presented as a children’s story where I am doing a monologue in character as Luke. Each Sunday of Advent I lead the children to a stable set up to look like a cave where I light the advent candles. Today the candle is LOVE.
Scripture Text (NLT): Luke 1:26-38
