Jesus’ Story of the Sower
Synopsis: The sermon series “Storytelling God” started with a celebration of the Remembrance and is to end in the same way. The Remembrance may very well be the churches most powerful vehicle for “Storytelling God” among believers and to those who have not yet surrendered to the call of Christ on their lives.
Jesus’ story of the sower is a lesson about His mission on earth. Yes there are four types of soil in this parable, but only one sower and only one type of seed. Notice that the sower sows the seed on all types of soil. The soil responds according to what type it is.
Today is World Communion Sunday and as we come to the Table of Remembrance we know other congregations are doing the same thing all around the world. Christians everywhere share the message. God the Father has provided the church with one type of seed. It is the seed of faith in the finished work of Jesus Christ the Son. All who receive Him will receive the power of everlasting life. The church must be careful not to limit the seed but to spread it everywhere we go.
As we come to the time of sharing the bread and the cup different ones will be involved in telling the story and encouraging whoever will to receive Jesus into their hearts and lives even as they receive the bread and cup of Remembrance.
