Free to Be
Synopsis: We in the United States have a national holiday we celebrate on the 4th of July. It is in honor of the Declaration of Independence signed by a bunch of very brave men back in 1776. It was only 235 years ago.
We in the church have a believer’s holiday we celebrate every Sunday. It is in honor of the declaration of independence signed in the blood of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and sealed in His resurrection from the grave. It was almost 2,000 years ago. He made us “Free to Be” children of the Living God our Heavenly Father (Romans 6:15-18).
We are not “Free to Be” anything we want to be, but free to be what God desires us to be. Our Heavenly Father wants us to know the abundance of life possible.
We are citizens of the United States of America by birth or nationalization. We are not citizens of the United States of America in order to be Christian nor are we Christians because we are citizens. We Christians because of our faith in the resurrected Lord. It is our obedience to our resurrected Lord that marks us as Christians.
Scripture Text (NLT): Romans 6:15-18
